MIDDLE SCHOOL
Congratulations to the middle school girls cross country team which won the Gretna XC meet Wednesday, Sept. 25. The girls team won the 2.3 mile race with 16 points, followed by Chatham with 43 points. The girls team was led by Raegan Wells in 20:57 in 2nd place. The top three Raiders included Olivia Tucker in 4th in 21:37 and Kady Nash in 5th in 22:14. They were followed by Elizabeth Hunter in 8th (23:20); Alexia Cutlip in 12th (24:07); Khloe Hodge in 18th (30:30); and Maggie Hodges-Tilley in 19th (30:36).
The middle school boys cross country team placed second at the Gretna XC meet with 47 points, not far behind Dan River Middle School, which won with 38 points. Silas Hamilton led the boys team over the 2.3 mile course, finishing in 1st place in a time of 17:02. He was followed by Levi Reynolds in 8th place in 19:00 and Sam Detwiler in 9th in 19:24. Right behind them came John Hampton in 21:58 (14th), Caleb Richardson in 22:54 (15th); Luke Dalton in 23:53 (19th); and Beckham Glover in 27:27 (28th).
HIGH SCHOOL
The men's and women's cross country teams ran fast times over a 3.3 mile course at Gretna High School on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Led by Clay Hamilton (2nd, 19:23), the men's team took fourth with 75 points, just one point behind Nelson County High School. Christian Goodman (2nd, 19:24); Lucas Hunter (8th, 20:46); David Owen (31st, 25:07) and Matthew Thomas (38th, 26:49) helped keep the points low. Dan River won the meet with 64 points.
The ladies were led by Elly Nash who placed 1st in 20:46. She was followed by Madison Martin in 2nd in 22:43, Julie Goodman in 5th in 26:47, and Shylynne Randolph in 19th in 28:08. Nelson County won the women's race with 24 points, followed by Altavista with 31 points. ACHS women did not have a complete team to score.
